Title: Training Blind [January 2007]
Media: Pencil sketch
Notes: I'm still puttering away at colouring this one by hand. It may yet end up done digitally [as well?] because I'm pleased with how it came out. I know the balance of the layout is a bit off and all, but I think its very pretty. Escpecially since I've been working away on and off in spare moments of classes on this for at least 6-8 months now. It wasn't one that I had any plans for what it was going to look like so it just sort of happened on its own.
Training sucks. Well not entirely. Wading around in the pond was always cool, and you noticed different things blind. Like the wingbeats of the heron, or those of the damselflies. Even the brush of a fish could catch you off guard -- once you got past thinking everything must be a leech. Really it wouldn't be that bad at all, if it weren't for that she always ended up smelling distinctly like a frog afterwords. And the mud. And the reprimand if she ever got the sword wet. She could drown -- so long as she kept that cursed strip of metal dry!
Psst - the coloured version is now up here!
